The SAIT Trojans join the rival Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference Augustana Vikings in the 2025-26 Viking Cup at the Recreation Centre, from December 28 to January 3.

This year’s edition will feature five teams from Czechia, USA and Canada. The tournament has been revived by the Augustana Vikings Hockey Alumni Association to continue with the legacy. All proceeds from the tournament will go to the association to support future Viking Cups and the Vikings.

"The SAIT Trojans are looking forward to be part of the Viking Cup in Camrose. The Viking Cup has a great history and it’s good it’s returning, after several years. It’s an awesome opportunity to showcase our league and players. Giving them (players) a chance to play new teams, it’s going to be a lot of fun," said SAIT head hockey coach Tyler Drader.

The Trojans were in second place with a 10-2 record after 12 games into the season. SAIT are led by forward Zach Cain who has seven goals and 19 points. He is currently second in the league, three points behind the league leader. Defenceman Cory King with 17 points, Travis Hensrud and Owen Underhill with 15 points, round out the top 10 ACAC leaders.

Not only can SAIT score some goals, but they have the number three netminder in Andrew MacLean who has a sparking 2.97 goals against average, .910 save percentage with 243 saves in eight games.

SAIT opens with a game against the USA’s Midland University Warriors at noon on Dec. 29 before facing the Augustana Vikings the next night.

This year’s teams feature the Czechia University Selects (all-star players compiled from several teams), the SAIT Trojans (from the ACAC), SJHL U20 All-Stars (Saskatchewan), Midland University Warriors (Fremont, Nebraska, USA) and the host Augustana Vikings.

The Viking Cup will feature 12 games, a round-robin format where all teams play each other one time. Following round-robin play, on January 3rd, there will be a bronze medal game at noon and the gold medal game at 6 p.m. to determine the tournament winner.

Ticket packages are available at https://vikingcup.ca/tickets. Adult and student pricing options are available. Children under seven years old can attend for free, but are still be required to get a ticket from the website. Single game tickets will be available at a later date.
