The Viking Cup in back in Camrose.

After almost 20 years, the Viking Cup is back at the Recreation Centre, from December 28 to January 3, 2026.

This year’s edition will feature five teams from Czechia, USA and Canada.

Since 1980 and to 2006, the Viking Cup was known for drawing top draft eligible players from around the world. National Hockey League teams loved the tournament to view players in one location.

The tournament has been revived by the Augustana Vikings Hockey Alumni Association to continue with the legacy. All proceeds from the tournament will go to the association to support future Viking Cups and the Vikings.

This year’s teams feature the Czechia University Selects (all-star players compiled from several teams), the SAIT Trojans (from the ACAC), SJHL U20 All-Stars (Saskatchewan), Midland University Warriors (Fremont, Nebraska, USA) and the host Augustana Vikings.

The Viking Cup will feature 12 games, a round-robin format where all teams play each other one time. Following round-robin play, on January 3rd, there will be a bronze medal game at noon and the gold medal game at 6 p.m. to determine the tournament winner.

Here is a quick look at the teams. The Czechia University League all-stars are comprised from 16 universities in a fairly new league to promote sports and education. The Midland Warriors are an ACHA Division 1 team from the United States that bring speed, skill and heart to the Viking Cup. The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is back with a U20 all-star team—a dynamic squad representing the SJHL’s best players. The SAIT Trojans are one of Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference rivals for the Vikings. The host Augustana Vikings are ready to bring back the excitement of the international tournament for Camrose and area fans.
